Whats the day like ?

UK Driving DaysSo what's involved? Generally these days start early with a briefing. This will cover the dos and don'ts of the circuit and the basics of the cars you will be driving. The breifing will cover things like the flags colours, racing lines and braking distances. Generally for beginners the track will have the braking zones marked, along with turning in points and apex points. This will help you determine when to apply the breaks, when to start turning and where to aim for during the turn.

Depending on the type of experience, you will then tend to have some in car instruction on how to drive the particular car. This is usually with an instuctor who is familiar with the course and the car.

For single car experiences you will then tend to be given the car for a number of laps to do your worst. For multi car experiences the day is usually broken into sessions that allow you to drive different cars. It is usual to start on a conventional sports car or suped up hatchback. This will help you find your way around the circuit and practise some of the lessons shown at the briefing. Later on in the day the tempo will move up to proper peformance cars and in some cases out and out racing cars.

For beginners it is recommended to start slowly and learn the pace of the car. Bear in mind you will be sharing the circuit with others who may well be more skilled and be prepared to let them overtake. After a couple of laps you will find you will relax into the experience and the lap times will start coming down. Most days end with a presentation of certificates to proove you did it.
